Chocolate Ice cream

Serves 6

This ice cream is real child's play as there is no cooking.

It has a wonderful flavour and a deliciously smooth texture.

200g plain chocolate

1 tin condensed milk

6tbsp water

1 tsp vanilla extract

600ml double cream

Break the chocolate into pieces and place in a heatproof bowl with the condensed milk. Set over a pan of barely simmering water and leave to melt and thicken for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove from the heat,  add the water and vanilla extract and stir, the mixture will be quite runny. Cover and chill for 30min.

Then pour the cream into a large bowl and whisk until it just holds its shape. Pour the cooled chocolate over the cream and whisk together until well combined. Pour into a 2litre freezer container and freeze for 2-3hours or until frozen. Serve in cones or in bowls with lots of strawberries.

Did you know? You may think that ice cream is a modern day creation but that is not so! It was first enjoyed by the Chinese in 200BC! The Ancient Greeks mixed snow and honey with fruit to cool them down in the heat of the summer. We were slow to catch on, it wasn't until 1718 that ice cream first made an appearance in the UK
